Words are sacred. If you get the right ones in the right order you can nudge the world a little. ~ Tom Stoppard

The truth is, it is much better to live a life without aphasia – to engage in that miracle called communication, in which the words bloom in the mind, flow effortlessly through elegant brain structures, emerging clear and whole from the lips with the very air we breathe.  So simple, this merging of thought and word – and so elusive, if aphasia has appeared unbidden.

Power in words is a cliche.  Loss of power without them is a fact.  The days that follow the onset of an aphasia begin a journey to which aphasia therapists may bear witness.  There is great power in this as well.  And if Stoppard is correct, and words are sacred, then the journey is also spiritual. We are both communicants.
